The LAV-III armored vehicle is the last in the Generation III Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) series built by General Dynamics Land Systems, and was commissioned in 1999. The vehicle is based on the Swiss MOWAG Piranha IIIH. In addition to the 25mm gun, the LAV III turret also houses a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun, a top-mounted 5.56mm or 7.62mm machine gun, and a 76mm grenade launcher. Developed in Canada, it is the main mechanized infantry vehicle of the Canadian Land Force Command and New Zealand Army.
